In a fire it combusts very slowly releasing smoke free water vapor and CO2 while forming an insulating char that prevents melting of the foam matrix. These properties can prevent the rapid structural failure of sandwich panels and SIPS and minimise the spread of fire. ​ HPS does not use Phenolic binders and so does not release any dangerous VOCs or Formaldehyde.
